How do I mount a heavy item in drywall?
I was recently given a rather heavy wood clock as a graduation present and wish to hang it in my apartment. However, the apartment i live in has metal studs, not wood ones, so i can't just drill into one of those to mount the clock. I've heard that there are special brackets for mounting heavy items on drywall, but I've searched both Home Depot and Lowe's and could not find anything. Has anyone heard of brackets like these, or have another solution for mounting my clock on drywall?

I use E-Z ANCOR They are called self drilling but I usaully punch a 1/4 inch hole so the start easier all you need is a #2 Phillips Screwdriver to punch hole and screw in anchor. They are availible at Home Depot or Lowe's they are cheap and come in different sizes. They can hold 25 lbs up to 75 lbs on a single anchor. I use them often for hanging heavy objects.
I believe you are thinking about these hooks advertised on TV. http://www.dryw… I don’t know if they work or not. I never bought them.
You said earlier that you have metal studs and can’t fasten to them. Actually you can screw into these studs. Remember that this is how the attached the dry wall to them. Use a regular or a self tapping screw and use a screw gun or drill with a Phillips tip to put the screw in. Put the screw at the stud location and let it spin until it starts a hole into the stud. Self tapping screws are not expensive and you can get them at any respectable hardware sore. I would rather see you put a screw into a metal stud than risk it all on some hook advertised on TV.
Good Luck with whatever you decide.

I have used these hooks on several projects, very easy. Also they are used by several of my art suppliers and actually come with the product.
